The Project

New restoration project at Carrosserie HQ – this gorgeous W123 has been shipped 5,500-miles to the UK from Guatemala! The car arrived at Tilbury Docks and will now make the voyage up to Barnard Castle to our workshop where our technicians and fabricators are very excited to work on this lovely car with a special back story.

This solidly built Germany executive saloon is believed to be the first W123 to be shipped to South America. Bought by its current owner’s Grandma back on the 15th December 1976 – the grandson has commissioned to restore this classic Mercedes back to showroom-standard at Carrosserie.

November 2023

The W123 actually had some restoration work done a few years ago in Guatemala – but the quality of the work was sadly poor and not suitable to the owners standards.

With the car spending its whole life in a much hotter and drier climate than the UK, this W123 has hardly any rust. Our fabrication team will be stripping the shell back to bare metal – all metal work will be done – reshape, realign and then respray.

Next, the car will move to mechanical, which will include a full engine and transmission rebuild. Full electrical refresh, interior will be re trimmed too.
Once the restoration work is done, the owner will drive from Barnard Castle to Spain where his grandma now lives and she will be reunited with her Mercedes once again.

We cannot wait for this gorgeous W123 to transport its original owner back to 1976. What a story – we cannot wait to start work on this 47-year old time capsule.

Expect regular updates on this one. The owner has also commissioned for a documentary to be filmed on the rebuild of this W123 – so make sure to follow our social media for this!
